DJ Hollywood gives us an exclusive inside look on what made him become a DJ, how December 23rd became "DJ Hollywood Day", and the reason he started as a DJ.
LEX -What were your first thoughts on being asked to play at LEX Nightclub in Reno?
DJ H -I was quite excited to be honest. I've spun in Reno many times and it's always been one of my favorite places to perform.
LEX -Who were some of your influences when you started DJing? And today?
DJ H -I never really had influences to make me want to pursue DJing. It started one night unexpectedly when I was at a nightclub at the age of 16 LOL. My friend that brought me to the club was dating the bouncer and said "dress older", so I put on a suit and aviator sunglasses, I thought I was Tom Cruise! We were in the DJ booth and the DJ had to run to the restroom so he said "hey kid stand here" and had me standing in his place. I took it upon myself to mix a record because the song was about to end, to my surprise the mix worked out. When he came back he said "look at you looking all Hollywood" and the rest is history!
LEX -What song can you not go one night without playing?
DJ H - I've never had the mindset that a specific song needs to be played during each of my sets. I like to keep things new and fresh each and every time I perform.
LEX -Who would you love to DJ with?
DJ H - I've had the pleasure of sharing the tables with some of the biggest DJ's in the world, from Tiesto to DJ AM. It would be really cool to collaborate with Calvin Harris or Skrillex... two different styles, equally talented.
LEX - What was the most memorable day you've had during your career thus far?
DJ H -The most memorable day/experience I've had during my career so far was when Mayor Oscar Goodman declared December 23rd "DJ Hollywood Day". I was recognized for helping to change the industry standard with the "party rock" style of spinning, promoting Las Vegas, and charitable work.
